DSP Re-energises offices for Doosan Babcock

Over recent years DSP have undertaken many refurbishment projects for the energy giant Doosan Babcock as part of a complete overhaul of their Tipton logistics site. Our work there has ranged from demolition works, racking & storage installations and warehouse fit outs through to mezzanine floors, welding booths and office refurbishments.

The most recent project undertaken on the site was the refurbishment and upgrade of the Purchasing department building. This included a variety of interior and exterior building works. The offices were in much need of an uplift to improve the accessibility into the building, the general layout, improvement of the amenities and general visual appearance. In addition in line with the overall scheme of improvements the insulation quality of the offices was upgraded in order to provide more efficient energy usage.

DSP provided a complete turnkey package for the project including:

Building Control liaison and application

New external disabled ramp to provide better accessibility

Reconfigured entrance including new internal door and external entrance door complete with push-pad automatic openers for better accessibility

Demolition and removal of all redundant internal fixtures and fittings including blockwork

Upgrade of insulation

After many years building up a strong identity in the industry it was decided that a new logo was crucial to reflect our current offering. The new building sign is the symbol of both recognition of our achievement so for but also as a beacon for future progress.

Seeking a peaceful retreat from the hustle and bustle of the DSP offices here are a few photos to inspire you from a recent visit to the 'bonnie' banks of Loch Lomond. Boasting stunning natural views and elegant local architecture in Luss, a visit to the Loch is highly recommended. With a vast array of water sports on offer and plenty of scenic walks/ trips there is something for everyone. Though do bear in mind that even when it is a heat wave in the Midlands there is still a tendency for the Loch and surrounding areas to be on the cool side!!

Here are a few interesting facts about the area in the meantime:

Loch Lomond is the largest inland stretch of water in Britain. The Loch is 24 miles long and five miles wide and at its deepest point is some 600 feet deep.
On the Loch there are approximately 38 Islands, some of them inhabited and there is even a Hotel on one, Inchmurrin.
Some 200 species of birds and over 25% of Britain's wild plants have been recorded in the area
Loch Lomond and The Trossachs National Park is the first National Park in Scotland, founded 24th July 2002. Stretching from Breadalbane to the Argyll Forest, the Park encompasses 720 sq miles of mountain, loch and glen.
The village of Luss ("Glendarroch") on the shores of the loch was the location for the TV soap Take the High Road, and the loch itself was given the fictional name Loch Darroch for the purpose of the series.
Today, Loch Lomond is well known for the exclusive Loch Lomond Golf Club which has hosted international events.
The area of Loch Lomond is close to the kingdoms of the Picts, Scots and Britons and was even invaded by the Vikings. In 1263 Magnus dragged his longboats across land from Loch Long and set forth destroying the communities around Loch Lomond.
The scenic charms of this area became popular when Walter Scott wrote of Scotland's romantic past with his 1810 poem Lady of the Lake, the lady herself being found on Loch Katrine. This was followed up by his historical novel Rob Roy romanticising the outlaw cattle thief Raibert Ruadh born by Loch Katrine and buried at nearby Balquhidder

'Facelift' for multi-national product and packaging company

DSP (Interiors) Ltd have completed the refurbishment for the Derby branch of a multi-national product and packaging company. The operations office was in need of a major facelift in order to both freshen up the interior and to improve the layout of the office into a combination of open plan and private offices.

DSP undertook various works including new and bespoke furniture, decoration, flooring, electrics/ data, lighting, seating, built in full height storage, kitchenette and solid/ frameless glass partitions. The result is a vibrant new 'facelift' for the area and a very satisfied customer.

Over 1700 runners turned out to brave the undulating streets of Hanley, Stoke-on-Trent yesterday. The weather was particularly cruel (although to be fair probably better than having to face blistering heat) as they fought their way around the 13.1 mile course which included some very challenging hills, one in particular very late on in the course at Milton Road - what a killer!!

Fresh from his 10K Personal Best at Elvaston Castle the previous weekend; DSP's very own Design & Estimating manager braved the conditions to come in at a very respectable time of 1 hour 54 minutes - breaking the dreaded 2 hour mark at his first half marathon event. 'Nah bad'.

The Way of the Roses...

Well done to all of the lads who raised money for various charities and braved all conditions to complete the coast to coast bike ride which came to a close on Sunday afternoon.

Starting on Thursday in Morcambe and generally following the way of the roses route, we use the word generally in the broadest sense. The actual route is 170 miles, following diversions to youth hostels and wrong turns we covered 224 miles.

Fabulous countryside through the Lune valley up to settle and a challenging incline out the back of settle towards our first nights stop in Mallam, and a well deserved pint of Guiness or two! (48 miles done).

We must say that all of the youth hostels we stayed at were fantastic, both accommodation and food were first class.

The second day started bright and sunny, soon turning into wet and miserable for most of the journey. All 77 miles which included a steady 8 mile climb up to Brimington Rocks together with a near vertical drop into Pateley Bridge. During which we had out first major off, with Andy Priestley being lucky not to have anything more than his pride broken. He managed to clock 48.3 MPH on his mountain bike before running out of road in an attempt to be considered the fastest wheels, but ending up the biggest pillock sprawled over the grass verge! Quote a pointless exercise as Ree the rocket Smith (AKA Miff) clocked 52.5 on his leisurely decent.

Please note that this sort of thing is childish behaviour and we do not recommend that anyone should try this (a note from our solicitor).

We would also like to take the opportunity to show what can happen at high speed if you come off. Mick Coxon now know as "Rocky" looked like he had been 5 rounds with Tyson following his off on a corner decent. To be fair he was unfortunate and the fall was due to diesel on the road, however it still cost him 3 internal stitches and 6 external stitches in York hospital, York being our second night stay. Thank goodness he had a helmet.

Bright sunshine and thick heads (good morning Chang Won and Darren Duck) started out third days ride through Stamford Bridge (not the Chelsea one), the fabulous Yorkshire Wolds and then several wrong turns to our off route night stop at another amazing youth hostel in Beverley expertly run by Helen Pook - we think the best of the week!! (another 59 miles done).

This Old Friar Youth Hostel should have 5 stars not the 3 stars which it is given in the YHA guide - fantastic food (enough to feed an army) and a great night out in various pubs in town including The Sun Inn (30 metres away from the hostel), Hosting Sticky Fingers the live Rolling Stones tribute band - very cool!!

Another bright day thick head full English breakfast start our last one.

The 40 miles of relatively flat but beautiful countryside was a relative breeze into Bridlington with the 30 mile an hour Westerly wind behind us.

A bit of a storm did not spoil the fish and chip lunch which went down a treat on arrival and we think Bridlington could have done with a good wash anyway (other sea side resorts are available).

An absolutely amazing four days!!!!

Brighton Superhero 10K Race

Some of the team from DSP embarked on an adventure of a different kind when they donned their superhero outfits to face the challenge of a 10K. The race, set on the sea front looking out on to Brighton peer attracted many hundreds of entrants.

The pier and beautiful coastal view was a delightful backdrop for the race although the beaming sun and strong winds made running in the costumes a bit of a challenge. Never the less the times weren't too bad (even if they do say so themselves). They would definitely recommend it as a day out to enjoy if you are in that neck of the woods next year.

Rolls-Royce Aftermarket

DSP’s experience was sought out as principal contractor to modernise existing facilities and provide a cutting edge office for the control centre of this prestigious engineering company. The installation had to cater for specialist AV and analysist facilities whilst maintaining a high end corporate image and reiterating the company’s position as market leader.

Incorporating many bespoke features and the latest technologies, the office was fully equiped with energy effecient ‘intelligent building services’. Full accountability as principal contractor allowed DSP to work within, and improve on, a very tight time schedule; a remit essential to the client in order to avoid a high financial loss. The final installation exceeded the clients expectations and provided them with an office that satisfied all of their strict requirements and created a vibrant working environment

Rolls-Royce A2 project

Above are photos from an installation by DSP for Rolls-Royce in Derby. This presitgious project for a suite of Senior staff included a variety of high spec partitioning and finishes encompassing full height glazed partitions complete with full height oak doors into slimline aluminium frames. The end result was a spacious and high-end workspace including a combination of private/ open plan offices and various conferencing finishes, all with appropriate acoustic properties.

Developments are coming along nicely at the Smith Cooper project as designs for the manifestations take shape. Working alongside supplier Komfort Workspace DSP Interiors have been exploring combinations of colours to create just the right look for the high-end office fit out. The manifestations combine with the Polar double glazed vision system extensively throughout the client-facing areas and play a big part in the interior design scheme. Aaron, DSP Interiors Design Manager explains further:

"Getting the right combination of colours, shape and scale is key to creating the aesthetic we are aiming for. It is crucial that we explore the options thoroughly. Enlisting DSP adds-up for accountancy firm

East Midlands based DSP (Interiors) Ltd were appointed to orchestrate the planning, design and fit out for the relocation of accountancy and business advisory firm Smith Cooper’s Nottingham office. The office, one of nine owned by the firm, was seeking a more prominent location for their premises. A vacant set of retail units located on the ground floor of the prestigious Lace Market Square in Nottingham City Centre ‘fit the bill’ perfectly.

DSP Interiors worked with Smith Cooper from the early stages of the project to set out a ‘wish list’ and develop a workplace appraisal. DSP also took a lead role in advising the client on issues of negotiation and the logistics of the move. With space requirements, staff numbers, storage needs and so on established it was then necessary to assess the suitability of the premises. A particular challenge was the sub-division of the existing units, the undulating site and consequent difference in levels. Another major challenge was incorporating all fit out works within a controlled budget and tight timescales.

Taking into account the various requirements, all spaces were mapped out within the constraints of the building footprint. The design integrates the spaces seamlessly, incorporating the level differences within flowing circulation spaces. DSP worked hard to develop the ideas into a working design that included:

• A ‘wow-factor’ entrance reception area

• High-end client meeting rooms

• Extensive boardroom training facility

• Partner enclosed offices and open plan workspaces

• Extensive ‘back-of-house’ workspaces including storage facility

• Washrooms, breakout and ancillary spaces

Work is currently underway on site and despite the programme complexities is expected on time and within budget.

Derby Pride Park 10K

Another great day out at the Derby 10K yesterday!

1000's of people turned out, met by glorious sunshine, to either cheer on or take part in the 10K and Fun Run races. Slightly changed from the last couple of years the course took in a lot of the sights of Derby finishing off with a superb half lap around Pride Park stadium itself. Well done to everyone who took part and especially those who raised a lot of money for charity.

Aaron, DSP's Design & Estimating Manager, is particularly smug after achieving both his PB and first sub 50! A big shout out also to Andy Priestley's wife Louisa for completing her first 10k race.

Custody suite is up and running

Bespoke desk being installed

Work has now completed on Derby's main police custody suite and is in full operation again. DSP played a crucial role in delivering the project within a very tight lead time, with works that included the design, manufacture and installation of a bespoke secure booking in desk. Other works included decoration, access flooring and floor coverings throughout. Given the importance of the activities undertaken on the premises the project was very restrictive in terms of security, sensitivity and limitations in availability of the area to work on. Both the design team and the fit out teams displayed continued professionalism throughout and were commended for their efforts:
